The 12 Days of Christmas Décor, Day 11: Gather 'Round the Table

Welcome to Day 11 of Blackbird Design Studio's 12 Days of Christmas Décor! In this penultimate chapter, it's time for a little table talk. Let's get to it!

Day 11: Gather 'Round the Table

As the Big Day approaches, hosts and hostesses are scrambling to make sure that the halls are decked, the stockings are hung, and the dinner table is set, down to the Who-Pudding and Roast Beast. Here are a few tips to showcase the big holiday meal without breaking the bank!

- Make use of Mother Nature's bounty! To echo the sentiments covered in Day 5, the holidays are full of opportunities to bring the outdoors in with little if any added expense. Evergreen boughs and holly make beautiful accents for centerpieces and place settings. A cinnamon stick tucked into a twine bow wrapped around a napkin creates a festive and fragrant welcome for each person at the dinner table.

- Bring out the fancy linens! A special holiday dinner deserves a luxurious background, and it doesn't have to be red or green. Gold, silver, purple and deep blue are just as elegant.

- If there's a habitual spiller at the table -- and there's one in every family -- never fear! Plate chargers are a terrific and often inexpensive way to not only showcase a classic dinnerware pattern but also protect the table from the inevitable "oops".

- Candlelight makes any tablescape look more elegant, but for safety's sake it's best to use flameless candles if possible to avoid a fire hazard and prevent wax from dripping on the fancy linens. As a bonus, unscented flameless candles won't distract guests from the smells of the holiday meal.

The clock is ticking...tomorrow is Day 12!

Until next time,

- Laurie
