The 12 Days of Christmas Décor, Day 6: Again with The Tree

Welcome to Day 6 of Blackbird Design Studio's 12 Days of Christmas Décor! It's the halfway point of the mini-blog series, and today's post revisits the tall, (usually) green elephant in the room: the Christmas tree. Day 3 was all about what to do without one; Day 6, the opposite!

Day 6: Again with The Tree

Whether it's freshly cut from the farm or brought down from the attic and assembled, the Christmas tree is the showstopper in most homes during the holidays. Christmas trees are usually set up in the most visible place in the home, in front of a picture window or by the fireplace for family and friends alike to oooh and ahh over during holiday celebrations.

Most websites, YouTube videos, magazine articles and blogs offer guidance on every facet of tree decoration, from the star or angel on top to the skirt at the bottom. Blackbird Design Studio, however, is taking a different approach. Here are a few tips:

String colored lights on the tree. Or white lights. Or no lights.

Use blinking lights. Or not.

Thread popcorn and cranberries on fishing line and use that as garland. Or use poofy, tinsel-like garland in hues not found in nature. Skip the garland altogether.

Put ornaments on every branch. Or go with a minimalist approach.

Choose traditional colored ball ornaments. Or decorate the whole tree with pink flamingoes.

Hang the heavier, larger ornaments toward the bottom of the tree for visual balance and to avoid any mishaps with ornaments that slip off the top branches. (Really. Do this.)

Put a giant lighted star on the top of the tree. Or an angel. Or nothing.

Get the picture? Simply put, there are no rules. (Well, except for the heavy ornament suggestion.)

Be original. Be unique. Have fun.

Tomorrow marks Day 7 -- a full week -- of The 12 Days of Christmas Décor. Thanks for reading along this far!

Until next time,

- Laurie
